Sick, Busy, Happy… and Tired.

Standard

Hey there. Hello. Imagine that I’ve said that very quietly, low key. If you know me in person, this may be hard to imagine; I appreciate that.  🙂 But I am feeling crappy today, no other apt word. Woke up with major sinus pressure and congestion, earaches, runny nose (really sinuses), and a scratchy throat. Grr. I don’t get sick very often at all and really, I am impatient. Too busy with life to have time to be sick. So, I flushed the sinuses with saline solution (ick) and popped some Buckley’s Complete gel capsules. Here’s hoping that, a low key day (for the most part) and a good night’s sleep help.

Maybe I’ll add a photo here to add some cheer.  IMG_0581I took this photo about a week ago in rural Manitoba, alongside the highway. You know , for a roadside pee break. I thought the colours, textures and light were beautiful.

So. I’ve just spent a good part of my weekend casting a play. I held auditions [for my grades 6-8 students] last week and 20 kids came out to try for 11 parts. The enthusiasm speaks well of my drama programme but the casting was hard to do. For the first time I’m going to try having understudies. Even though today is not a teaching day for me (I teach 60%) I am going to go in at the end of the day to break the big news to everyone. Some will be overjoyed, others will be okay with my decisions and a few will ‘have their noses out of joint’. Oh, the play we are doing is called The Murderous Mansion of Mr. Uno by Don Zolidis; it’s a murder mystery-comedy parody of Clue.

Starting this week, I will have 2 play practices a week for my kids (after school), 2 play practices a week for me (evening) and one belly dance class. Life is never dull! Of course, there is also my own art practice, which often gets shuffled to the bottom of the priority pile, and this blog, to say nothing of household-everyday stuff. See? I meant what I said about no time to be under the weather.

I don’t think I told you about the play I’m in. I was cast in one of 4 one act plays that will be staged on a cabaret weekend at the end of October. The One Act Cabaret is part of the season of plays offered by Regina Little Theatre. The play is The Pen of My Aunt, by Gordon Daviot. It is set in rural France at a country estate in 1944. My character is Madame, the owner of the estate. NO, she is not a madam! My character has a lot to say, even though the play is only about 30 minutes in length, so I have my work cut out for me. I am excited to be working with the other actors and this director, so I hope I do the part well.

I should probably work a nap into my day but we’ll see. I still plan to do some drawing and BE in the studio, meet with the school troupe at 3:40, run lines with a friend for about an hour, go to a fundraiser dinner and get to play practice tonight. Whew! Good thing I’ve already walked the dog.  🙂

Have a great day and be creative and kind!
